VE Commodore Alternator
Alternators are used in all modern cars to charge the battery and to power the car's electrical systesm whilst the engine is running. The strong construction of most automotive alternators lets them use a smaller pulley system allowing them to turn faster than the engine itself, providing an improved output during engine idle.
Some common problems indicative of alternator problems include; dimmed or brightened headlights, a growling or whining noise coming from the engine bay, or the smell of burning wires or rubber from the engine bay. Other symptoms may include the "e;battery"e; light coming on, which is actually an indicator of the voltage dropping below or going above a preset limit rather than the battery itself, or broken or loose connections to the alternator.
